Sevillian Rhapsody

Lordy, what a concert!

Carlos Saura’s documentary Flamenco, Flamenco, filmed at the Seville Expo ’92 pavilion, takes us through 21 dazzling music videos (the cinematographer is Vittorio Storaro, who won Oscars for Apocalypse Now and two other films). They feature dance, song, and instrumental music, alone and combined, against backdrops and behind screens decorated with reproductions of Spanish art. The costumes are brilliant, the dancing and guitar playing are breathtaking.

Flamenco is a passionate art form. This film would probably get a G or PG if it were assigned a rating, but it is one of the sexiest movies I’ve ever seen.
